Sadly, this is the best we can do right now. 9900x suits especially creative computing and other productive workflows (i.e., not gamer nerdz). DDR5 DRAM prices are of course climbing even faster starting 2026, by unanimous reporting. Micro Center has a holiday return policy for even bundles (normally 15 days) lasting until January 15, so it's a smart strategy to pick up and hold until then, no matter what, just in case an A.I. bubble bursts -- extremely unlikely, cuz lotsa lonely people romancing A.I. during the holidaze.

I have this mobo and it has Gen 5 pcie issues. If you are using a 5090 and gen5 nvme be prepared for a micro stuttering mess in all your games. Otherwise it is fine.

Give it time, it's only getting worse with the Micron news.

Read about this, lots of people state that enabling FCH spread spectrum in the BIOS helps.

Did you update bios and all drivers?

And, to be clear, for those of us who don't "game" and who don't need a 5090, this is not an issue?

You can also get a $20 Steam credit for the purchase of that (or any) MSI motherboard.

Is this essentially a list of defective stuttering hardware that they are apologizing for with steam credit?

Under a lot or most circumstances it's best to update your drivers and BIOS no matter what you do. BIOS updates may include cpu/voltage/ram stability updates, new hardware support, and security protection for the motherboard. If everything is working perfect there is a valid reason to leave it alone though.

For me I had a problem when the Z790 motherboard came out (asrock livemixer) 3 years ago. I got some high end ram but just could not get it to run stable where it said it should as well as the CPU ran hot. A later BIOS update included special support for the ram I had and tweaked the power limits for the intel cpu I had.

It's really interesting: today, the memory price came back down to nearly what I originally posted. We are looking at bizarre swings both up AND down. I want to be impressed that maybe Micro Center is only charging what they "have to," but I'm not optimistic for the future.

Wow, this surprised me: even cheaper at $650 now. Are DRAM prices "coming down"?
