I have this set. Might be okay on smaller pipe sizes, but for 1-1/4 it was completely useless. Would only cut about half the necessary thread and then bind up. Couldn't get it to go any further even with a pipe on the handle for leverage.

I have no experience w/ this kit, but I bought a related Vevor item recently - the thread chaser kit, to clean out the holes to install a hitch on my car. It was ok. I'd never used one before, so perhaps it was user error, but it didn't seem designed very well. The hardest part was making sure the thread chaser was perfectly straight/plumb, and there was no mechanism to assist in doing this. Seemed odd, considering the item is designed to cut into metal, and not having it straight can have bad consequences.

Thread chasers are not for cutting into metal. They are for cleaning threads.

A die is for cutting metal.

What technique were you using? I have a nice (rigid) set and a Chinese set likely made in the same factory as these Vevors. The Rigid set is a little sharper, but the Chinese set still works and works well with the correct technique of cut a quarter turn, back off a half turn, cut three quarter, back off a half, cut three quarter, back off, etc…

We have power ponys at work and you have to watch for build up on the teeth while it cuts. Backing off a few turns and starting again is common to prevent damage. Also using a heavy brush to clear chips helps. We use an oiller bucket to keep the whole piece lubricated throughout the cut.

I used this exact technique. I've been a CNC machinist for 18 years so I'm familiar with how to cut a thread. I also constantly drenched it with cutting oil the whole time with a bucket underneath.

Rented this from Amazon for an odd job few years ago, decided to keep as performance was great for the price.
Used ATF as the cutting oil.
Back then regular price was $34.99
