This is more for reducing vibration and not really absorbing sound. So this is not what you want for that.
You want acoustic panels for that
Thanks for the info, I was going to build an enclosure for my 3d printer and was thinking of using this to dampen the sound some more, I used acoustic panels before but they are not as flexable as I would like.

Damping vibration is damping sound. Of course a much thicker, dense material will be better than these mats. Still, these will reduce noise and lock heat in. I've ordered a pack for my P2S.
My home tends to get loud - kitchen noise heard in bedrooms, hvac system loud when on, etc., etc. Has anybody experimented with these (beyond the sink) for general dampening of sound? Or does it really have to be targeted?

I want to do the same thing, my furance is loud af... was thinking on the return duct work in the furnace room.
Mass Loaded Vinyl is the best stuff to use for general sound deadening. As sound is function of air vibration, the only way to slow down the noise waves is with mass.
This product serves ok for basic needs. The reflective foil helps with blocking higher frequencies (like squeaking) from passing though, while the buytle rubber helps reduce the mids (most road noise from tires), but this probably won't help as much with the droning of lower frequencies (hearing bass from other cars, or driving on rumble strips). Low frequencies are generally the hardest to remove unless you have more mass.

I bought these a couple weeks ago to reduce the vibration noise from ventilation fans on an entertainment cabinet.
Basically it reduced the low level hum from the fans.
I need to test putting the butyl rubber on a Synology NAS to see if reduces the hum from those cooling fans too.

It's not about "soundproofing" a sink. Essentially, you're deadening the sound. Absorbing certain resonating frequencies, to be more specific. It works well some sinks have strips of similar material from the factory.
BTW, you don't need to cover the whole bottom and side of a sink. Several strips, like 10-15% area coverage, would be fine.

There are different levels of sound damping and isolation. I have a room where i play loud music at home. The walls are filled with rockwool, which is a pretty good sound damper, but we did not isolate the room. Isolating, which is getting rid of solid connections for vibrations to travel through then absorbing that vibration (turning it into heat) is difficult, expensive, and vulnerable to little mistakes that can still transfer vibrations and ruin a lot of effort. As it is, deep bass played loud is audible upstairs diagonally, not too badly, but certainly badly enough to upset sleepers. How? Because bass vibrates the wood of the home, and that transfers into the floor, which transfers into the air. A whole bunch of mass is not going to make a huge difference here, because there's already a whole bunch of mass. Homes weigh a lot, ya know. Also I have a 16", ported sub.
So your 3d printer is loud? Put some absorbent, heavy material on the outside, like this stuff. It will damp the vibrations, which essentially are the sounds. It won't get rid of them, and the damping will vary by frequency. The higher the sound, the easier to damp, but there are many factors. The lower the sound, the more isolation is the only solution, or maybe a whole lot of mass. At a certain point, more of this material won't significantly damp the sound more, but it will probably reduce heat transfer.
Also, BTW, it's damping, not to be mixed up with dampening, which is making things wet. Then again, if people use a word wrong long enough, it becomes right.
