I do not have any experience with this Kitchenaid machine. The espresso machine itself is not as important as the grinder, as long as the machine gets to pressure between 7 and 10 bars. Some machines at this price point have too much pressure (12 or 15 bars or even higher), which is not good as it will create channels in your coffee bed and overextract some parts (i.e. taste bitter). The main thing you want to look for in entry level machines is that part, otherwise save the money and put it in a better grinder.
The other problem with entry level machine (including Bambino) is temperature stability - they will fluctuate 3-5F in temperature unless you purge/flush the machine once with a blank espresso shot before brewing your actual shot. It's a small annoyance that you are almost certain to get at these price points, even with PID enabled machines.
Community Reviews
KitchenAid's metal semi automatic espresso machine stands out as an entry level starter for learning espresso at a low price, with strong crema, flavorful shots, and an all metal build. The automatic milk frother makes lattes and cappuccinos easy, and the bundle feels comparable in features to a Bambino Plus while avoiding the plastic body. The main cautions are a loud operation, a small water tank, and a learning curve for tamping and shot pulling. The finish can scratch easily, and the frother and steam wand may feel weak for latte art or heavier use, making it a practical starter if you want to grow into espresso.
The espresso portion can produce excellent crema and consistent shots for learning espresso at home.
The all-metal, steam-frothing bundle can feel sturdy while supporting automated lattes and cappuccinos.
The machine can be beginner-friendly for setup while still offering a learning path for tamping and pulling shots.
A PayPal cashback offer can reduce the effective price to about $100 after it clears.
The automatic milk frother and steam wand can be weak, which can limit results for milk drinks.
The coffee puck can come out very wet, which can require experimentation to dial in extraction.
The smaller water tank can limit heavy-use sessions and reduce convenience for frequent brewing.
The exterior can scratch easily, which can affect appearance over time.
