The idea is to let the burners on your BBQ give veggies and the like a good direct flame sear, but have them contained and not falling through the grill grates. Out of all the types I've used (been gifted) I like the "tubes" the best since you just roll it on the grill to get even cooking. Most of the time though, I dont bother with this kind of thing.

Unless you are going to strip off all that nonstick coating with lye based oven cleaner, I would not grill any food on this
