All things considered, this is objectively one of the better 4:3 handhelds on the market. It's not the most powerful, that would be the 477m but it's 2.5x the price and isn't very ergonomic.

This is comfortable in the hands. It will play PS1/N64/GC and below no problem. It will play GC/PS2 with mixed results depending on the game

In summary if you don't like black bars and your primary interest is retro gaming, this is a good device.

I have been eyeing this model for a few months to have something more reasonably sized than my Steamdeck to play retro titles. I need to take another look at the GC performance limits, but I think this probably takes the crown for best price/performance right now. Would anyone recommend anything else at $100?

I had ordered this, but decided to cancel. I'm going to wait for another deal on the RG476H instead (was recently $120ish) or try to be content. The RG476H seems much better at that deal: almost the same physical size but thinner, same performance (CPU and RAM), much bigger and better screen (higher res 1280x960 at 120hz).

I think realizing the resolution of this RG406H (960x720) was less than the little TrimUI Brick (1024x768) and that the 476H was so close in price recently was a wake up call. If that deal doesn't come back, I'll be fine with the now 3 cheap devices I got in the past few weeks and the Moto G Stylus 2025 I got specifically to play games on (that phone has a mid Snapdragon CPU with similar performance to this and a high res 120Hz OLED display), but not as convenient/portable with controller.
