By the way, Johansson is OK to look at, but not much of an actress, though I guess many would not share this view. I call her the female Keanu, and the fact that she is the go to girl for SciFi, does not bode well for the genre. Her and Charlize Theron, very much the poor man's Sigourney Weaver.

2.0 added CGI and visual effects, adjusted the color grading, and polished up some of the frames to make it look cleaner and sharper. But the vast majority of fans prefer the classic analog feel of the original, self included. The only real improvement of 2.0 is a surround mix for home theaters, but that's not worth the visual trade-off.
Definitely go for the 2004 remaster - it's the original 1996 film with a clean HD transfer. Skip 2.0. Since you brought it up, the 2017 live action version is worth watching once just for the visuals IMO, but it pales in comparison to the original.
2.0 was released in 2008 and is way more than just a remaster. It includes recolored scenes, entirely new CGI sequences, updated lighting and digital effects, a partially re-recorded 5.1 surround dub (same actors, new readings for certain scenes), and a remastered soundtrack with new effects. Because of these changes, 2.0 is considered a reinterpretation, not a faithful restoration.
The vast majority of fans prefer the original/remaster over 2.0.
2.0 came out in 2008. It changed some things, and added a lot of CGI sequences which look pretty Janky IMO.
