Are xtools generally good? Looking for a colour laser engraver so was thinking of getting the ultra version of this but the price jump is huge compared to some of the flat non portable ones I've seen

Xtools is one of the big names in laser engravers and has a decent reputation. I don't know about color laser engraving though.

What are you trying to engrave? The power of the bigger models makes a big difference in speed and ability to do projects

I am assuming you are talking about metal? You won't get color or even a visible marking from a 10w diode laser as it's too weak for metal. Look into 20w+ diode, 3w+ IR or MOPA Fiber laser which won't be at this price range but can be acquired under $1k except for the Fibers that can run you a few K. Picked this up as a backup engraver, great price for a Galvo style laser. The only limitation is small 4x4 engraving real estate and it engraves in a cone, so you won't get perpendicular cuts like gantry style. Great for surface engraving and the speed is unmatched. What would take me 5 minutes to engrave on a gantry would take me 30 seconds with a Galvo. I have a 5w diode gantry, longer duo 20w diode and 3w IR and a Commarker 30w fiber. I would recommend something that has both Diode and IR, that would cover most material except transparent material but there are ways around it like surface sprays. At this price though for a brand with recognition and large community, it is a great starter.

I just bought f2 ultra uv and doesn't do much to coin embossing. It is good with glass inner engraving though. Do you recommend any fiber laser for coin embossing?

Yea, get 30w minimum but if you can get the Mopa version, then you can get some cool colors. I would recommend 50w+, requires less passes but still take a few hundred passes to get it pretty deep. Only issue I have with fiber is it's best for engraving metal, seems too powerful for other non organic material but since you have a UV, you got the best of both worlds. UV is end goal for me, just out of my price range at this time, hence the reasons I have a diode and IR laser which is less destructive for marking.

I only have experience with my commarker 30w non mopa and I have no complaints besides I wish I got something stronger like 50w. When you start getting to the 100+ you can start cutting metal. I used lightburn and it has been great
