This is the Switch 1 version. The Switch 2 version is in a red case, the artwork is smaller and there is about a 1 inch red bar across the top on the front with the Switch 2 logo in the middle.

FYI You can buy the Switch 1 version and pay $10 to upgrade it to the Switch 2 version on your Switch 2. If you buy the Switch 2 version it comes with both the Switch 1 version and the Switch 2 upgrade on cart. The Switch 2 cart can be played on Switch 1 or Switch 2.

That is interesting a newer cart can be played on an older device. That's like if we can pop in a PS5 disc and be able to play on a PS4.

I don't have a physical Switch 2 game yet to test this out but it could work if all it needs is the cartridge to be present granting you "digital rights" to that version of the console it's in (i.e. a major download of the older game will still be required since the advances in the newer game are useless on the older console). The obvious exception to this rule would be that exclusive Switch 2 games won't work on Switch 1!

I think my first physical game will be the just released Metroid Prime!

It's more like when the PS5 first came out that a lot of PS4 games had a free upgrade to the PS5 version. Except you're paying $10 for the upgrade here.
