I literally bought a similar one for $15, without RGB, to replace a hyper 212. There's still plenty of use case for a cheap chunk of metal.

Why? You get a good heatsink, a way better fan than these use to come with, and thermal paste.

Just attach a box fan to your cpu. I never had an issue with this cooler

Your lack of oversight fails to take into account that I've actually purchased 3x of these Cooler Master Hyper 212s over the past 6 months.

This air cooler is rated at 245W TDP for $15

"Rated at 245W". Amazing how Shenzhen Fluence Technology PLC is able to produce a single tower and single fan cooler that apparently is able to match or perform better than many dual tower + dual fan cpu coolers and 240mm AIOs. Must be the next-gen gravity defying heat pipes they mention.

That is impressive. That is right up there with my Noctua D14, twin tower, dual fan.
Must be the free thermal paste they include.

The Honda Civic of cpu coolers, can't go wrong with this.

How has this remained the same price for 10 years now, but my clean-record car insurance has tripled despite the car being worth a third what it once was.

This unit has 5 heat pipes vs 4 for the Cooler Master. I agree that 5 is better, but that CM unit is more than adequate for most CPU's. My cooler is 4 pipe, and it's served me for more than 10 years now. For a 120W+ cpu, though, the 5 pipe cooler would be a good call.

In for 1. Never hurts to have a spare 212 in case my AIO fails (again).

I've given away my other 212s making scrapyard builds from my spare parts.

They're reliable and can cool pretty much anything you throw at it.
