Community Reviews
This ASUS TUF F16 is a strong value gaming laptop for 1080p and 1200p play, pairing an i7 14650HX, RTX 5070, 1TB SSD, 16GB RAM, Thunderbolt 4, Windows Hello, and a 90Wh battery. The mil spec chassis and larger non OLED 16 inch screen add to its appeal, and the delivered unit confirmed the 1TB drive. The main concerns are the heavy chassis, the Walmart spec sheet confusion, and repeated hinge durability complaints on prior TUF models. The 8GB mobile GPU memory also limits confidence for 1440p gaming, especially in newer titles.
Common Questions (5)
It is marketed with a MIL-SPEC chassis, but hinge and LCD-cover failures have been reported on some units. The practical takeaway is that the chassis is sturdier than many budget gaming laptops, but the hinge area may still be a weak point.
The laptop uses the mobile RTX 5070 with 8GB of VRAM. Desktop RTX 5070/4070 cards have 12GB, but the laptop version is the cut-down 8GB model.
It can run 1440p on an external display, but the 8GB mobile RTX 5070 may become a bottleneck in newer or heavier games. It is better suited to the native 1920x1200 panel than to demanding 1440p gaming.
It comes with a 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 SSD, and the delivered unit confirmed that the Walmart spec page was inaccurate. The model/part number cited is FX608JPR-WH74, which matches the 1TB configuration.
The included 16GB is enough for some use cases, but a 32GB total upgrade is commonly suggested if you need more headroom. The extra 16GB upgrade is estimated at about $160.

Edited because the specs on the walmart pages seem to mismatch. Looked like the TUF only had 512GB on the spec page, but the description says it's 1TB.
Desktop 5070/4070 have 12 GB.
Laptops/mobile have 8GB.
You should find the Walmart spec sheet is right in this case and it has 8GB of VRAM.

Someone earlier in the thread said I am making a mistake picking #1 over #2, and I am clueless as to why.
All the mobile parts are cut down since the 3000 series.
