For anyone curious, this is a shell. So you'll still need base layers and a mid-layer (like a puffy jacket or other insulated jacket types) to stay warm.

Assuming you'd know that if you're looking at an Arc but you never know! Hope that helps.

This brand is just a rich flex at this point. Are you really going to get 6 times the value from this vs a north face or Patagonia rain jacket?

Value and quality aren't on a geometric scale. That's like asking are BMW M class 6 times better than a Toyota Camry? For some it might be. Having owned Arc'teryx, NorthFace, and Columbia. I can tell you that my Arc'teryx has done amazing on over a decade and 50+ National park visits with inclement weather. Whereas I can't say the same thing about my NorthFace or Columbia. Buy once cry once.

The fact this is nearly 30% off makes it an amazing deal, so if you're asking about value… 100% it's there. If you want to pay for it…that's a different story.

It's a great brand, sure.
However, this is not a good deal. they have insulated down around 300.

Please don't spread misinformation.
This is an Alpha SV jacket, which is their high-end line. If you had actually taken the time to look at the item, you would have seen that this Alpha SV jacket explicitly states it was made in CANADA.

Also, not all products made in China are inferior. If that were so, then how come every Apple product isn't always downvoted into oblivion?

Don't buy into the brand name. This jacket has a waterproof membrane and a DWR finish just like dozens of other jackets for half the price. The DWR will wear off over time and it can wet out overwhelming the membrane. Don't put much into the breathability marketing either. A Sil-Nylon or Sil-Poly rainjacket is multiples cheaper and inherently waterproof. They'll always outperform expensive "breathable" membranes but are less durable.

Many of the items originally were made in Canada. I can attest that these original items were bulletproof. Expensive but worth it. Since a Chinese company purchased the company and moved production to China, the designs are still excellent, but the quality is not as good. I own one of the Canadian made shoes and it is still in one piece. The second version was made in China and the toepiece is falling apart with less use. It has become, like patagonia, a fashion statement more than a durable outdoor brand.

For the outdoorsy types, you can make your own choice between different waterproof technologies: Gore-Tex, Sil-Nylon, Sil-Poly, etc. based on your needs and budget.

For those who are not outdoorsy, don't take some random stranger's opinions here on slickdeals. When you google search "goretex vs sil-nylon", at least Google AI will give you better information and confirm that goretex is breathable while sil-nylon is not.
Yes, DWR wears off, but that's why you reapply it (i.e., REI [rei.com] and many outdoors stores sell products like Nikwax).

these garments need to be regularly tech washed and DWR treated for longevity and performance
