Get a pair of soft wire cutters. Cheaper, way more durable, better attack angle and grip, and they can cut wire too!

I too have pretty thick nails. Despite only clipping after softening with a shower, I would still run into issues with dull blades requiring lots of force and uneven cuts.
I stopped buying cheap Chinese clippers like these and bought Japanese nail clippers (typically in the $12-20 range)-- vast improvement. I have had them under a year so I am unsure of longevity, but reviews indicate they stay sharp for many years.
I got some Green Bell clippers for $12 on sale (now cost a few bucks more https://a.co/d/58SV1dz). Seki also makes good clippers. Tried a set of Muji but wasn't impressed. Wire Cutter recommendation for best clippers is a Seki Edge/Green Bell, and all of the three recommended are Japanese clippers made in Seki city.
