I bought one of these, wanted to love it. It's sooo slow for anything but basic browsing. Went back to MacBook Air and it's like another planet. Sure this is OLED but at $1000, the $749 MacBook Air at Costco destroys this.

No idea how you can feel a MacBook Air is "faster" than a snapdragon surface pro, especially with that 120hz screen. Snapdragon is already way smoother than comparable x86 PCs in any native app and windows11 system. Unless you are talking about running some specific software (rendering etc) then the speed of a snapdragon to finish an assigned task might be much slower than m4/m5. Anything else the snapdragon will be either on par or smoother.

Just some adds up. That crap 60hz screen on MBA is just a slagging junk that can't beat any decent deals. In that price range you see those 120hz 3k OLED Windows laptops with 285H/350 who are true kings. Simply unmatched user experience.

This is still a bad deal though. You can get this for $799 in BF with 10% cab and 5% prime card.

My M4 Air does noise reduction to a test image in Lightroom in 19 seconds. The SP took 3 minutes and 40 seconds. It's like night and day. Sure I love the screen of the SP and enjoy the aspect ratio, but the performance is poor.

See? You are using Lightroom, which nobody really cares about other than maybe 1% of the consumers. That's what I mean: unless you run some specific softwares that is not natively supported/GPU relevant and compare the speed to finish tasks, otherwise snapdragon is on par or smoother than MBA. Office, some coding, Microsoft, windows, these mainstream thing

Again, that 60hz on MBA is hurting your eyes every single second you are using it. 99% consumers couldn't care less that whether Lightroom runs fast or not but will notice that 120hz OLED vs junk 60hz screen at the first moment. If you use exterior monitor, why don't just get a mini?

Apple is just disgusting but effective on their pricing strategy.

It couldn't even handle Chrome with 15 tabs. I was at 99 percent memory. I'm telling you man. It's like a Ferrari to a Ford.

I did do this with Luminar which is written for ARM. Same result. It's the slow processor. Maybe good for a phone but not a laptop.

Tbf, both are overpriced garbage.

The 256gb in base air is criminal given macs don't play well with external storage for anything but store data.

Microsoft has made a huge mistake trying to shove ARM based windows down everyone's throats. Either they need to find an effective way to migrate the entire code base to ARM at a similar or better performance level or they need to stick to x86 which frankly is faster than ARM.

Don't buy these products as long as they have ARM (ie, Snapdragon, Qualcomm, etc) processors in them.

My guess is you don't own one of these machines. I've been using Windows on ARM for over five years now and it's great. It was very rough in the beginning before Windows 11, but the improvements have been extremely impressive. Surface devices running ARM have amazing performance and battery life. Compatibility is almost universal.
