for my area of queens ny, beef prices are typical, lamb is about double.
so no big deal. i doubt this select choice prime nonsense matters here.
since usa farmers are sitting on mountains of grain they could not export
they are feeding it to livestock hoping to add value, so plenty of sales now.

My grocery meat selection is almost all prime with the bulk packs being choice and some small label select stew meat.
As for 10%of all beef sold, who do you think buys more beef: grocery shoppers or Taco Bell?
i didn't realize Taco Bell used beef.

We buy these every year if we can find one in stock. We use a reverse sear - cook in a very low oven, then blast it w/ heat just before service. Even with Choice grade, it turns out great. Excellent deal.

If you want to find these on the shelf, go to an aldi in a hispanic neighborhood.

I always find these whole loins and meat special.

Dude, just STOP. You clearly know next to nothing about how retail meat selling works. Most Prime beef goes to restaurants. Some makes it to grocery stores. 95% of the beef sold at a grocery store is Choice or Select. Taco Bell would be Utility grade at best. I have 20 years of experience at a high end grocery store and most of what we sell is Choice, sometimes select. When we sell prime, it sells at a premium, and it's a small proportion of the beef we sell.

"Prime usually sold by grocery store meat counter." Are you kidding? Almost all grocery store beef is choice or select.
He must live somewhere with classy grocery stores.

EDIT: I should have classified my employer as "previously higher end" as it has been heavily shitified over the past decade.

Best thing to do with Choice is look at every piece of meat on the shelf. The amount of marbling varies so much that you can still get something that's close to Prime if you're picky enough.

I bought a tenderloin for $10.99 a lb. a few weeks ago there. Cleaned it up and cut it into steaks. Very good, Very tender. I bought another one yesterday, 8 lb. (would have bought two, but there was only one there) I also bought 3 rib roasts from them (total 20 lbs). They obviously aren't the best quality, but for a Christmas meal for 14 I'd tell them "You get what you get and don't throw a fit."

I went yesterday at 9 am and was able to secure one of each but greedy a--h-les were putting multiple in their carts and then ringing up separate transactions at self-checkout. I wish Aldi was not skeleton crew ran because the 1 per customer needs to be enforced so more people have a chance to purchase.
