This refurbished HP EliteBook 845 G8 stands out as a solid business laptop with a Ryzen 5 Pro 5650U, upgradeable RAM, a backlit keyboard, and a strong fingerprint reader that works well on Linux. The battery and SSD health reports look encouraging, and the two year eBay refurbished warranty adds peace of mind. The main tradeoffs are the display, which is described as mediocre with 45 percent NTSC color, and cosmetic wear that can include scratches or small dents. The $10 coupon only applies with Klarna at checkout, making this a capable office machine if the screen is not a priority.

Common Questions (5)

  • Units can arrive with light scratches, small dents, or surface stains even when listed as Certified Refurbished. The laptop itself can still be in very good working order, and the seller includes a charging cable and a return-label option if you are unsatisfied.

  • The display is reported as 45% NTSC and is described as mediocre, with limited brightness and color compared with newer premium laptops. It is fine for office work, but not ideal if you want vivid colors or strong contrast.

    blueletterdElatedSpaniel543EfficientAlpaca712ElatedSpaniel543

  • The $10 coupon brings the price to $190, but it requires using Klarna at checkout. Without Klarna financing, the coupon may not apply.

  • This model does not have a touchscreen. It does have a backlit keyboard, so it works better for low-light typing than the non-touch display suggests.

  • Yes. The RAM is not soldered, and the motherboard has two SODIMM slots, so memory upgrades are possible.

45% NTSC <--- that screen is horrible

-------------------------------------

MacBook Pro: ~135% sRGB

45% NTSC panel: ~60–65% sRGB

You're looking at roughly half the color volume. Practically: colors on the 45% NTSC panel will look dull, desaturated, and "cheap" next to your Macs.
I totally agree and I should've mentioned in my post. The screen is very mediocre.

Display is bad but also fairly par for the course when it comes to non high end windows laptop displays. Comparing a $200 refurb to a Macbook pro display is kinda like saying your Corolla doesn't ride like a Rolls.

I bought a "very good" laptop from that seller, and it had visible scratches on the casing. I expect a "good" to be even worse.

Why a full wipe? Why not just dual boot with Windows and Linux? Some things don't work on Linux (Many Steam games and Fandango/Vudu movie streaming for example). A Windows license is a commodity, which you paid for with this product.
I'm a 100% Linux guy and have been for over 20 years. I don't need windows at all and if I could get a refund on the license I would.

Bought a certified refurbished from this seller and it only had a somewhat visible stain on the surface. Other than that, laptop was in great condition along with the charging cable. Seller also included a card with the package that mentioned if you were unsatisfied for any reason, it'd be easy to obtain a return label to ship it back.

I got mine from this seller and I'm really happy with it. There are some light scratches next to the keypad but you can't really see them most of the time. It's a bit thicker than I thought, but feels solid. I don't think it travelled much, was probably a corporate laptop kept at the office. It was either connected to a keyboard or the keyboard has been replaced, because there's no obvious key wear.

No touchscreen but the keyboard is backlit. The battery has 13 cycles, so has clearly been replaced, I just hope it isn't some cheapo replacement. Cystaldisk says the SSD has run over 1700 hours and 1000+ power on count, so it's had over three years of solid use, which may give pause to some. I tested it for a few days under Win 11 and everything was perfect. Must be the best finger print scanner I've used on a windows machine.

I've installed Ubuntu 25 on it and everything runs great except the fingerprint scanner, but I can see it's detected and I probably just need to fiddle with it a bit.

edit: the screen isn't very bright or have nice colours. Fine for office work but doesn't hold a candle to any recent macbook.
Was this a good or very good condition unit?

Appearance: Pristine, like-new condition

Performance: Works like new, meets the manufacturer's specifications.

Oh thanks, didn't realise that. I couldn't use the word pristine - there were fine scratches next to the trackpad, like caused by a ring or something. I'd say it was Refurbished Excellent
