My take 25 hours in is that it definitely puts you in the seat of being a student at Hogwarts. All the magic is there and there's tons of callbacks to the books. The cast is all at a different point in time though, so don't go in expecting Harry or Hermione to be your sidekick.
All of the sidequests and open world completion is the same/similar busy work (solve a puzzle, clear out enemies at X), but I'm enjoying the story and it's not so much of a chore that I'm bored. The combat system is varied enough where you can find different combos to keep it interesting. The stealth mechanic is kinda weak (just come up from behind people), and is more of an option if you don't like fighting - though there are some story missions that require it.
TLDR; I like it. If I wasn't into Harry Potter though, I might not appreciate the storytelling links back to the source material.
