Does this essentially rip off the sheathing by feeding the wire through?

Doesn't seem to make a clean cut on the jacket. Might also be awkward to use in a small space like an outlet box.

Is this good for my broke dad who makes a hobby of collecting wire that he says he is going to sell some day, but meanwhile it just piles up?

I don't think so, this is to install wire in your house, maybe to add a light or an outlet.

Thanks. Shipping was free at Lowe's for me (no minimum) as a "Silver Key" member. No idea what I did to earn that status.

You spent past a threshold for the year. You'll have to regain it next year

Every time this deal comes up I look at it and consider it. I don't do it enough that I always pass, but $12 is the consistent deal rate for the Klein brand.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank RyzenPrime

If you are planning to do a major home remodel and need to cut 100 wires, this might be handy.
unless otherwise, you don't want to make your tool box, too heavy with this.
You will not use this 99.9% of regular home maintenance.

Even you are planning to upgrade, your lighting fixtures with LED, you will not use this tool.

Also, just $3 off from regular $15 is also not a deal.
Check review as well. This not something Essential Tools you should have

for that you're gonna want a "wire stripping machine". the one i got was 30-35 bucks. bolts to a benchtop. feed wire in one end and either turn a crank or remove crank and attach a drill (worth it if wire is long). it basically just slices the sheathing which doesn't sound worthwhile but after one good cut from a razor knife - this thing is worth its weight in gold.

Prof. Farnsworth: Let me show you around. That's my lab table and this is my work-stool. And over there is my intergalactic spaceship! And here's where I keep assorted lengths of wire.

Fry: Whoa! A real live spaceship!

Prof. Farnsworth: I designed it myself. Let me show you some of the different lengths of wire I used.

Not worth the packaging it ships in. I bought one thinking it would be easy. Boy was I proven wrong. It was faster using a blade.

Get him a propane smelter and ingot molds and tongs, he can make them into ingots then

camelcamelcamel has it at this price for nearly 5 of the last 6 months.... I fail to see how that qualifies this as being a 'deal'...?
