I have both an AcuRite and a La Crosse temperature sensor. The LA Crosse chews thru batteries (which is one reason why I use rechargeables in it), while I can't remember when I last changed the batteries on the AcuRite.

Accurite is the same. The older the unit gets the faster it drains the battery with my experience. I wish they lower the price on the replacement sensors.

I have had one for 10+ years, and it still works great. Batteries last a very long time, including the sensor outside in the elements.

Hm that's not my experience. I have two Accurite devices similar to this and have had them for over 10 years and they both are powered by AA batteries. I'm running them with Eneloop rechargeable (which merely provide 1.2V) and they last well over a year per charge. Maybe it depends on the model, and if there's a background light that is used often?

I do use expensive lithium batteries for the outside, I found Alkaline or rechargeable batteries are too weak in my climate when temperatures drop into the negative.
