I have 3 of these sitting on a shelf somewhere from previous deals in years past. All three had eventually lost their grip that slows and stops the tape which kinda makes them worthless. It didn't take long for them to lose it, and it seems to be a known issue.

Yep, got one for myself a few years ago when Ace had them for only $5. It lost it's grip after a year or so of very light use. Fixed it twice by taking apart and applying some electrical tape, but even that wears out again after some decent use. Okay deal for a 25 ft tape, but honestly the $5 HF tape measure is easier to use even if the tape itself is a bit flimsier.
