Tough to pull the trigger on this when comparable zenbook was 900 a week ago. I missed that one, and am still in the market though.

Well that's your opinion. It's far from comparable to me. Worst build quality, processor, and weight. But most importantly, I would never buy a fhd+ oled screen. Oled lower res screens have fuzzy text to me and I am by no means a screen snob. I would actually rather have fhd+ ips screen which the text is fine but the oled ones, especially touch screen, have fuzzy text. I have seen it personally but you can Google it if you don't believe me.

Excellent open box is $993. YMMV probably.

I bought this one after shopping around for a while. Compact, super light, excellent build quality. Still game game casually. Runs cool.
Does no have the sleep and overheating issues I have experienced with other Asus laptops.

I think this one is reaching a year on the market. Due for a refresh soon?

I was looking back on it yesterday. There's pros and cons. The processor on the cheaper one was, I guess, a faster one, but people said that would reduce battery life some. But as the other guy mentioned, the screen was worse on the 900 one.

I'm a big open-box fan, but no longer will I consider ASUS open box at BestBuy. ASUS only gives a 90 day warranty, and after that, you have to pay BestBuy a deductible (based on price of laptop) to get it repaired. Even Total Tech members (me). My latest BB nightmare was with the 16" version of this (Zenbook S 16) and had to deal with an incompetent Geek Squad person.

Do a good testing within 90 days. The chance of these breaking within the first year is pretty slim.

Screen suddenly went out (again). Screen was already replaced back in April right after being purchased (it was a really good deal so I chose to have it repaired instead of just returning it). Now the screen pretty much just died (it'll come on for a second or two, then black). I guess I'm part of that "pretty slim" crowd.

Well, hard to tell. Did you reseach if this is a common issue on this model?

I have not researched it, but a quick search this was first:
