I have an older Hisense TV. Decent TV but I had to tune down the brightness as otherwise it hurts my eyes. This one is even brighter. Who needs that?

Brightness is the new keyword in the world of LED TVs. The brighter the better!

Agreed....unfortunately at the expense of picture accuracy
Which it seems that most dont care about anyway..unless they are buying Sony Bravia 9 models

Which Hisense model do you have?

I have a U8H( from 2022) and a board just died in it
It wont boot past the Hisense logo when you turn it on

Thank goodness for the 5 year warranty
They are either replacing it or giving me a refund for my purchase for the TV

The Hisense U8 models are known for over brightening elements in HDR content

Additionally, if you watch lower quality content, the picture processing of the Sony Bravia 9 shines when compared to the Hisense

Whether that is worth the extra Sony money to you is personal choice

Well, this is technically not true. The QM8K is rated as having higher peak brightness and it's also under $1000.

I don't have one, just going by what Rtings says, over 5,000 nits on the Hisense, whereas TLC is around 3605 nits. technically that is what I go by, they use pretty good equipment and I trust them.

Ah, my apologies. The posting just says U8, but it's the U8QG (2025), not the U8K/U8N.....which are inferior to both.
Indeed, it does have higher peak brightness. But, here is Rtings's conclusion about the two:
"The TCL QM8K is better than the Hisense U8QG. The TCL has much better black uniformity, with less haloing around bright spots in the scene. The TCL also has better processing, especially in HDR, where the Hisense boosts its brightness too much, resulting in a brighter image than the content creator intended. The TCL is also better for gaming, with slightly lower input lag at 120Hz and a faster response time."
Overall I would take the QM8K, personally. (I bought one, myself.) Just sharing it as an alternative for others in this price range who were curious about their options.

I guess the down votes are because the way you typed it, but yes, Hisense has worse backlight control than TCL. I owned a 2023 U7K, and returned for it being faulty wifi and randomly restarting, but have recorded that the backlight would bleed into the letterboxing of a movie when it wasn't supposed to-- worse if you had subtitles. RTINGs pictures and write ups confirmed that, and eyeing it year over year, doesn't look to have drastically improved. I can only personally speak for the ones I have owned, though, but have had ZERO issues with TCL, and I have owned (2) Q750Gs, QM751G and now a QM8K.

Also, the U8 series from Hisense is the STARTING point of actually being quantum dots and NOT KSF phospor, where there are minimal quantum dots, so the U7 and lower are falsely labeled QLED. More corners Hisense cuts or is worse than TCL.
