IIRC, when they did 12 days of giveaways last year, it went up to New Year's Eve. But I might be remembering that incorrectly.

I don't think you need to download the launcher to redeem, you can redeem it online via the browser. But if you want to play it you'll need to eventually install the launcher.

Because the moment it became available, their servers started getting hammered. It happens every time Epic releases a major title for free. But generally if you wait a day or two everything will be back to normal; looks like we have a week to claim this one.
