I have this and my favorite thing about it is the "FEATURES HDR HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE
FOR BRIGHTER, DEEPER MORE LIFELIKE COLORS" sticker on the front of a black and white movie.

All kidding aside, the 4K remaster is the best way to watch this movie. The first time I watched it I noticed things going on in the background that I'd never noticed before.
There's also a very nice bonus video showing how they cherry-picked different parts of different scenes from the best parts of the remaining earliest film prints and what they did to hide transitions between sources or to repair damaged sections and whatnot.

It's worth watching.

The abridged version is on Prime Streaming and is terrible. It removes the whole soul of the movie without any explanation.
This is the best possible version of the original release on a 4K UHD disc and it includes a colorized (it's done fairly well, to be fair, I just don't prefer it) verison in 1080p on a normal Blu-ray disc.

It's worth noting that this set of discs only includes the black and white version in UHD so you'll need a 4K Blu-ray player to watch that version. If you only have a normal Blu-ray player you'll have to watch the colorized version it comes with.

While the color comment is funny, I did notice the HDR flair on the tinsel on the Christmas tree.

With George Bailey, the town is boring. Without him, there's nightclubs and bars. It's fabulous. I wish he hadn't been born.

The reviews on this aren't great (talk about an abridged version), but it's unclear on which format (DVD, Streaming, 4K) they are referring. Can anyone comment on if this is the real deal?

Yeah, I always thought that the alternate version of the town looked like it was lots more fun.

Is this remastered in 4k from the original footage or something?

Yes, in 4K with HDR from a combination of original or the highest quality surviving footage available.

Yeah but there's no rum punch or mulled wine LOL. I think we need to force young people to watch this movie, albeit with their eyes propped open ala clockwork orange. Cool trivia- the actor that played the bartender is Sheldon Leonard, big bang theory characters were named after him.

I'd always heard that but, until just a few years ago, had never seen it. I expected better (in fact, I quite disliked the main character), and I guess my wife and I will take White Christmas any year. Jimmy Stewart is nevertheless one of the all-time greats.

Good deal on a classic that still holds up. Thanks for the background on the versions as that information is really helpful!

This is the problem with reviews on Amazon. They mix ALL the reviews into one. That includes reviews for the streaming abridged version (an abomination), the dvd, blu-ray and 4k versions.
