Blink's doorbell and Outdoor 4 cameras are mainly valued as a low-cost, easy-to-expand security setup with a good app and, in some setups, solid range from the XR receiver. The newer iteration is described as better than older Blink gear, with faster viewing, correct timestamps, and local recording to USB or SD when the storage module is working. The main drawback is that video saving and full functionality can require a subscription, and local storage setup has been frustrating for some. Connection lag, slow live view, and inconsistent module communication also come up, making it a practical budget option if the cloud and setup tradeoffs are acceptable.
The XR on Outdoor 4 camera can increase distance for module communication.
The system can store recordings directly on the XR receiver to SD without cloud or internet.
The subscription can add features, speed up viewing loads, and provide correct timestamps.
The setup can work as plug-and-play for some users after upgrading modules.
The Sync Core module can require a subscription to save video.
Customer support can be extremely slow and may fail to resolve streaming or local storage problems.
Inconsistent connection issues can cause laggy live view and slow loading.
Local storage activation can require company permission and may stop working after canceling a subscription.

I can't speak to your experience, but I experience none of what you're saying except for delay in getting the stream to start. That said, it's better on this iteration, but I don't know if it's the upgraded doorbell or if it it's the new XR receiver, or both. Never had the need to deal with their customer support. Just plug and play for me. In fact, I found the XR on Outdoor 4 camera to work exceptionally well as it did increase the distance drastically. The recordings are stored directly on the USB drive (on older models) and on the XR receiver it's straight to SD. No cloud or internet needed. It doesn't make sense for Blink to incur the cost of receiving your video, then downloading it to your receiver. Then incur all the cost of forensics (like logging) and storing your data.
So I've been happy, but everyone's experience will be slightly different and can depend on a host of environmental factors (such as interference).
PS, I appreciate the time taken to share your experience.
Well, I disagree. I'm entitled to my own opinion, and I'm not required to justify or write a product review when I say it. You don't have to read it or take it. You can simply pass!
Anyway, good for you! My experience, as I mentioned, was terrible to the extent that I'd never consider their products again. I may be wrong about exactly how local storage works in this particular product, but it's not a straightforward plug-and-play process. Their app has to consult the company's servers to allow storing locally, because it's obviously not in their best interest for you not to subscribe to their cloud services. The whole company is a cloud-based services retail seller! Selling cameras is peanuts vs. continued subscriptions (same story as selling printers vs selling printer ink). But I digress. A straightforward process should never wait for the company's permission to switch and "activate" a module to store things locally. It should be a simple local setting on or off in the app that does not require any control from the company. However, as I said earlier, this is how it seemed to me was going, but it is what I ran into: the sync module is recognized in the app, but their service won't allow me to switch after cancelling their subscription. No matter what I do, it just won't let me use it. I used many USB sticks from various brands, speeds, and capacities, but I couldn't get to store anything locally. This continued for weeks, and customer support failed to even respond to many of the emails I sent to inquire about the problem. And I hope you really don't have to deal with them.
Either way, your experience is entirely different, you like the brand, you think it's worth investing in, that's great! I totally respect that. I'm not trying to tell you what to buy or not; I'm simply sharing my opinion and experience with a brand.
Best of luck!

I can't speak to your experience, but if you're looking to save, and don't boycott them due to ideological reasons, I'd give them another try. I don't recall if it dials home or not, but that was not my concern. The device would be network and internet connected anyhow for remote access. I'm not aware of any other options that are fully offline and records locally, but I didn't search.
