If just looking at price/battery, getting the 12-pack of AAA Eneloops right now is a better deal ($1.88 each):

I see a version of this question anytime an eneloop deal comes around. The usual answer is the eneloop remains the gold standard and while the upfront cost may be slightly higher the continence and lower cost of ownership make up for it. Hope that helps

I always wonder how these compare to the newest models the larger brands have released now (Energizer, Duracell, etc. or even Amazon's)

Yeah, and the 8-pack is the same per battery price with a lower commitment...

This is not a great deal, just an average deal.
This pricing is $2.00 per battery.
Eneloop AAA batteries normally go for about $2.00 each according to current pricing for 10, and 12 pack eneloops and according to historical pricing on triple camel.
I think the 12 pack is actually less than $2.00 each right now.

Not sure how much better these are compared to EBL, but the price difference is pretty steep at 2x.
