This compact 850 watt Anova sous vide cooker is mainly appealing as a cheap way to try sous vide or add a second unit for smaller jobs. The basic app lets you set temperature and start or stop over Bluetooth, and the cooker has been used successfully for chicken, steaks, pork chops, and beef chuck. The main catch is app dependence, with Wi Fi remote start tied to a paid subscription and some concern about future support. It also heats more slowly than larger Anova models and can be too tall for some stock pots, making it a handy but limited little cooker.

Works great.... great price. Ignore the naysayers. Not one of them even mentioned that it's now Breville - they've taken over. Love being able to use the app instead. I have a few of these.
I think you're thinking of the Joule sous vide machine

I have not seen anywhere about Breville taking over Anova. The latest I've read is Electrolux https://www.electroluxgroup.com/e...nova-23189. Do you have a source for your claim?

You would be correct and I stand corrected. Thank you for pointing that out. That being said, I do have an Anova sous vide as well and wouldn't have any problem paying for this one either. The anova was my first one, and it's too tall to use in many stock pots, so I got the joule to use as well.

Ditto. Especially for 20$ I think this is a steal. The first anova I bought took up alot of space and I think cost $200!

Please PLEASE don't buy this awful brand. Not only does it require an app, it doesn't work at ALL if you don't have internet, and it will bug you constantly to buy a subscription. Do not buy this, and I think the users that keep posting this brand should know better.

Really? (subscription app for the ovens? I was thinking about the Anova Precision Oven...)
Yup. They are charging you a subscription fee to remotely start your oven. Completely ridiculous, and definitely a company I'm avoiding. Not supporting that kind of crap!
We all know what's going to happen too, right?

This leaves some Chinese copycat to underprice, and take over the market.

I have one of these. I use the basic App to start it and set the temperature. That's it. No subscription, works via bluetooth. I believe if I wanted to start via wifi it would require the $10/year subscription. I've had Anova Sous Vide machines for years...my first was from some kind of kickstarter program. All (2 of the larger units... plus one is still new in the box from when it went on clearance at some brick/mortar store) going strong. Bought this small one for use where I'm renting a room out of town for work. No stove...just a microwave, 2 burner hot plate, toaster oven to cook with. I've made many steaks/pork chops in this since I got it last year...saving a great deal over buying food out. Well worth it to me at this stage. Just bought one for each daughter to have too, so I'm not overly worried about it turning obsolescent.

Got mine and immediately threw some chicken in a vacuum bag to start cooking. I already have the fancy model with the display, but for twenty bucks I couldn't resist. Plus, based on my track record, Sous Vide cookers tap out after about 1.5 to 2 years of weekly abuse. I use them nonstop for chicken thighs (ridiculously good) and to tenderize cheap Beef Chuck like it's actually a premium cut.

One thing I noticed about this model is that it's really slow to get going. My other Anova is 800 watts with a display, and even that one warms up faster. This one heats water like it's on a smoke break.

This price is good for someone to try sous vide for themselves. SV is not for everyone.

Misinformation over the app associated with this product. It has no base subscription but the functionality is extremely limited. You set temp, start and stop it w/o a subscription upgrade. There is a timer but so far if you go over the time set it holds the temp you set, so may as well not be there.

It's obviously a good deal for what it is, but the fact that they're blowing them out at $20 means the product itself didn't sell. Must have been a flop.

Sous vide is interesting and I bought a 1st gen Annova in 2017, but I stopped using it after a few times because I never achieved results that I thought I would. With all the concern about microplastics, plastic leeching and touching food it really surprises me that people are so willing to cook their food in it.

I'm guessing they're selling the equipment cheap hoping to cash in on the subscriptions. It's the old razor-blade model: give you the razor for little, make the money on the blades.
