This sets an instant buy if I can convince my daughter to get really into hot wheels. Mostly for the finish line piece (is there a finish line piece you can buy without this set?)

This. I've experienced with my 3 year old multiple times. If it has a linear way of being played with, he gets bored very quickly and the toy ends up collecting dust in the corner. The best toys are the ones they can get creative with i.e. modular track, etc.

We bought this for my then five-year-old a couple of years ago. It only gets pulled out and put together occasionally, but he really enjoys it.
