Call of Duty Black Ops 7 is getting the most praise for multiplayer, which feels improved and closer to Black Ops 2 and 3, while campaign co op is described as pretty good. The setting refresh also lands for some, and the game can still work well for casual play with friends or family. The biggest knocks are the always online requirement, frequent large updates, heavy storage use, and a campaign that is seen as weak or only okay. Some also feel it is too futuristic or too similar to Black Ops 6, making it a better fit if multiplayer is the main draw.
Players who want a multiplayer-focused shooter, because the campaign is weak but the multiplayer fixes several Black Ops 6 issues.
Campaign co-op pairs who want a different setting, because the co-op campaign is pretty good and the game refreshes the series away from repeated WWII backdrops.
It keeps a similar feel to Black Ops 6, but the multiplayer is described as improved and the campaign is more divisive. Some players stick with BO6 because they dislike the wall-jumping/Omnimovement, while others say BO7 plays more like Black Ops 2 and 3.
Updates can be very large, sometimes larger than a full game download, and the game can take up about a third of a hard drive or more. Leaving the console in rest mode lets updates finish in the background.
Yes. The game has had free multiplayer trial periods, and some buyers are waiting for those before paying full price; others say they would only buy around $20, or $30 if DLC is included.
Yes. The campaign is reported to be always online, with no CPU replacement when playing solo, no mid-chapter checkpoints if the internet drops or the game crashes, and no pause option.
That is not confirmed in the comments. One shopper specifically asks whether this disc is cross-gen or strictly PS5, so it may be worth checking the listing details before buying.
Used to be on GamePass Core now essential. Service not worth it in my opinion as there's no consistent AAA games from Xbox Studios and due to price increase. If they had one NEW AAA game every other month it may be worth it
Campaign was okay at best. Not as bad as people put it out to be. It's not the setting, it's the always online requirement, no CPU replacement when you play solo (can't rely on revival stim all the time especially on harder difficulty, most objectives/switchs are opposite end of the map), no mid chapter checkpoints if Internet/game crash or need to stop playing, at least 2 maps are recycled from past campaign but different story scenarios.
I can't argue with personal opinions about BO7. The campaign is definitely better with 2-4 people in my opinion. I wouldn't buy Game Pass Ultimate at full price either, whether $20 or $30 now. I have always hit the marketplaces that sell $11 one month subs..
That being said, with all the the hate and supposed shift to BF6 (which campaign is ok, with inferior MP for years), top tier sales, even with the millions playing on GPU that don't show up in financial stats
People will pay $18+ for Netflix and maybe watch 2-3 shows a month, but $11 for GPU and it's horrible and overpriced. If there's nothing appealing on the service.. don't sub.
