The strongest thread takeaway is protein powder, especially Optimum Nutrition versus Kirkland Signature. ON gets praise for better taste, easy mixing, and strong value at 80 servings for $50, while Kirkland is described as decent but less flavorful and not as smooth. Flavor preferences lean toward chocolate and vanilla, with some favoring Ascent or Levels for cleaner ingredients and less artificial sweetness. A few caveats surface around water mixing, sweeteners, and lead concerns in protein powders, so the sale looks most appealing if taste and ingredient profile matter most.

Common Questions (6)

  • Optimum Nutrition and Kirkland Signature are close on quality and macros, so taste is the main tiebreaker. ON is often preferred for flavor and mixes well, while Kirkland is cheaper per serving and some find it less pleasant in water.

  • Regular users may want to check heavy-metal testing, especially with plant-based and chocolate powders, which can have higher lead levels. Third-party certifications like NSF Certified for Sport or Clean Label Project can help narrow safer options.

  • It mixes easily, but it tends to taste better with milk than with water. For water, using ice-cold liquid and a blender helps, and the Extreme Milk Chocolate formula was adjusted with creamer to make it more palatable in water.

  • Yes: the Costco tub is 80 servings for about $50, which makes the sale price strong value if you already like the flavor. It also has more servings than Kirkland's 70-serving tub, so the per-serving comparison favors ON when prices are similar.

  • Costco has a self-service price adjustment portal for Costco.com orders, and responses can take a few days. Costco usually allows price adjustments within 30 days, so it is worth submitting the request if the item drops soon after purchase.

  • The code is online-only and expires on January 18. It was received by members both with and without Executive status.

Not much for me outside of the Chicken Melts, but will probably pick up some Friskies (I've never seen this go on sale before!) and litter for the kitty.

Can you do investments with this for free? Or is it like one of those "free" returns where it's only for 1040EZ and no state.

Costco has all good powders - you'll never go wrong.
Ascent is the best chocolate. $40 a bag when on sale. I haven't tried their vanilla yet. Their stuff doesn't taste like a protein powder.
Kirkland is 2nd best chocolate. Very chocolatey, but it's got the typical protein powder taste.

ON Chocolate is great too, don't get me wrong. I just like the other 2 better as they are more chocolatey and more complementary in flavor for my banana, PB fit, chocolate protein shake.
ON uses a cream like flavor to dampen the protein powder taste in its mixes so the powder by itself generally tastes better than others, but it doesn't taste as good when mixed with other flavors.

ON is the best vanilla (ice cream) though hands down. I love to use it as a base for protein ice cream.

If you're going to get into protein powder, be sure to get a proper blender:

If you really want to up your game, get the ninja creamery and turn that shake into an ice cream instead. It feels so bizarre being forced to eat ice cream to hit my protein goal.

Which one is better between Optimum Nutrition protein powder and Kirkland Signature protein powder?

They will both be the same price for the same weight during this promotion period.

Thanks for the write up! I like KS. I guess I'll try ON. If I don't like it, I'll return it. I usually just do ice cold water + protein powder in my Vitamix. Comes out fully mixed and tastes good. It tastes best when it's cold.

Lee youth joggers - would they also drop in price online, starting 22nd Dec? I was about to buy 3 of them to utilize combining ongoing B3 G15off and B10 G50off. Thanks and reps.

ON is def better tasting (Vanilla / chocolate) and does mix easy!! I recently tried the Levels brand Costco sells... pretty good so far with relatively low calories/sugars! I'd def wait til these go on sale though!

Lots of food items on sale! Just in time, too! I'm just about out of my Beyond Burger patties.
