A very common use for these are to save you from getting a ticket when cities drop the speed limit from 80 to 40 for a few hundred feet, such as at the bottom of a hill to fatten up revenue.

I don't "speed" often (destroys mpg efficiency) and even then is typically 4-7 over. All of this is the well within the normal flow of traffic. Radar detector helps remind me to mind my speed and protect against the small chance that a cop may decide to penalize even a marginal speed overage.

Not everyone using one of these is the maniac going 20mph faster than everyone else, weaving in and out of traffic, though if a ban on these would prevent those dudes, then by all means bring it on.

What? I'm a state trooper and I don't know wtf you're saying.
This isn't going to do anything.
How would you even know? The whole point of this device is that drivers slow down before they are detected. There is no way for you to know how many instances a driver slowed down before getting flagged thanks to one of this detectors.

Meh, pre-paid legal services that turns every speeding ticket to a non-moving violation is the best way to go.

I've had an R3 for a long time, no tickets, and I have it just running Ka. It's quiet and gives a lot of range. I paid around $300 for it many years ago. At the time, they didn't have the one with arrows, which would have been nice, but not $300 extra nice.

If you are going to blow this kind of money on a detector, please consider a Valentine 1 (https://www.valentine1.com). I've been using and upgrading mine over many years and it has saved my bacon many times. It really takes things to the next level when combined with JBV1 software on a phone/tablet/headunit.. (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?...JGHBMiZBuo). You can do similar things with Uniden but V1 has a long, long history of support and upgrades so you dont have to burn another pile of cash every several years to replace the unit.

I am considering. I heard repair wise the Undien is good ?
FWIW My V1 failed and needed to be sent in for repairs. Never had an issue with my R3 or R7 which have been used constantly. The OLED screens burn in or fade a little bit. Have had them out in Vegas sun for a couple years and they didn't melt either.

I had an R3 for several years driving 20-30k miles a year and the only time I ever got a ticket was when I left it in my other car and was driving without a detector. I bought an R7 for the arrows and to put in my other car. Don't really miss the arrows all that much when I'm riding with the R3 and haven't gotten a ticket with either detector. I did get a ticket when my old Valentine 1 malfunctioned. I sent it in for repair and gave it away, but since then I have stuck with Uniden and never had a problem.

Are those things really work?
Would buying a cheaper option at $300, or $50 range would work too? What percentage does these work? Like saving you 9/10 times?
