With these eco tank ink printers, do they have the printer killer ink drying up in the print head problems if you don't use it weekly?

I went laser after owning countless inkjet printers that I forgot to use weekly. I just gave up and got a brother mono chrome toner based laser printer. Same printer for 10yrs or so now (HL-2280DW) with zero issues. I go through 1 toner cart every year or so and 1 drum every 4 or 5 yrs. Even the drum is a cheap generic as well as $15 toner carts..
Can you give a recommendation? My parents are having issues since they hardly use their printer and when they do the ink is dried up and the ports are clogged.

Are you able to do photos on glossy photo paper with laser printer?

which one did you go with? i have the monochrome brother MFC 29600W but i realize i need color printing. part of the issue is that i do not have a ton of space so need something that isn't too big.

Went with canon mf642cdw. Been. Running great for years now. That said it's def not small. Unfortunately most printers that will actually last are more commercial oriented.

No, but then again I can afford to print lots of pages for cheap.. If printing color is your main objective, there are better options than ink or laser for printing on glossy paper if price is no object.

My question still is, have they figured out how to keep ink drying in the print head yet. You will print a bunch of things in the first few week, and after the thrill is gone you will forget to use it for a month and you will be back to nothing if they have not figured that out.. IDK, because I print pictures at the drug store, WM ect..

The HP color lasers look pretty sharp by my old eyes and is better than the brother color laser jets. Then again it comes to a opportunity cost equation. Brother toner is generally cheaper so If you are printing a lot of copies you have to figure that in to the equation too.

I was looking at a OD/OM for color lasers because they had some significantly discounted floor displays and almost bit. Then I asked myself just how often is color needed and I left that $200 color laser there. If I was looking to buy one, check out the office stores to at least compare quality vs price. Mom wants one, but I feel ordering the prints on line or in store for the prints she needs of photos is more cost effective IMHO.

Color toner can be quite expensive, but it wont bleed like ink if it gets wet.

Another thing I noticed is this is not a "duplex" (prints on both sides) printer. A ream of printer paper is about $7 in single packs. I love duplex.

I'm confused.

Isn't it a tank printer that is sold much higher elsewhere?

If so, is there individual tank reseviors to hold each color's ink?
And where to buy the compatible ink bottle?

Thanks,

That's the big tradeoff, but with a good laser, photos have a natural gloss from the fused toner itself, so I get decent prints on heavy paper or light cardstock. But I just have them printed at the 1 hour photo when I really need that quality. But I swear on all that is dear to me that I will never buy another inkjet printer for as long as I live.

I like brother printers, but this one not having an LCD Display and buttons for settings is a No Go for me. I'm not using an app or software to setup the printer, I'm a power user a do all that manually!

Hello Brother. It also spools up rather quickly. And no non-brother toner kill switch.
