Excellent laptop, great build quality and nice display. MacBook Air might be more powerful, but for energy efficient Windows Machines this is hard to beat.

It's a solid laptop. I got a new one for $1000 during Holiday deals.

Anything you dislike? I imagine RAM being soldered or something

The 16GB MBA is more powerful than this? Because of the M4/5?

I looked at an Open Box Excellent. Decided to pass.

Reasons:
* It only has one SSD slot (no empty 2nd slot). So only way to increase internal storage would be to clone SSD to a larger one, and swap it. Or do fresh Windows install. Not a simple plug-and-play like most other laptops with an extra empty SSD slot.
* The display has nice resolution, but is very glossy, looks almost like a mirror. Lots of reflections in the screen.
* The keyboard is like typing on a thin, flat sponge. Not much tactile feedback from the keys (and also no number pad).
* Lots of keys are "combination" type keys, where you have to press another key to use the other function. Which is a shame, because there is lots of real estate there to have a richer and fuller keyboard, instead of consolidating it way down. And those grills on the side aren't speakers, they are air vents. Get rid of those and give me more keys. Or put actual speakers in there.
* Ram soldered, but that wasn't a deal breaker because basically all non-gaming laptops are soldered these days.
* Only one Thunderbolt port.
* A bit of a concern when I saw like 8-10 open boxes in my store of this model. I realize people return stuff, but seems like the open boxes for this are way disproportion to the rest of the open boxes. Wondering why so many returns? Other brands might have 1, maybe 2 open boxes. But half the open box cabinet in my local store was this particular unit.

Could it be that those people paid a higher price and returned and rebought to get a lower price? Or that they simply decided that $1000+ was too much for this machine? I did in-store pickup on a Ultra 7 258v 16-as0033dx (slightly different) as Excellent for $699 retail, but am on the fence if I should pick it up for the reasons you described, though I'm not sure my money could be better spent elsewhere. I don't imagine I'll be needing to upgrade the 2TB SSD anytime soon, if ever, as a general user.

Downside is the ARC140v video…on par with a RTX 3050.

It could be stability issues - I got an open box Intel Ultra processor mid-year, and it had random freezing/reboots...

Notice that AMD processor laptops are generally not being cleared on open box sales at Best Buy.
