I saw this TCL QM8K in person at bestbuy a few days ago and was very impressed. It could be mistakened for an OLED. Have my eyes on a 85" QM8K..waiting for the right price..
This is an absolutely fantastic television. I got an open box excellent 75" from BB for a little less than this a few weeks ago and I have been loving it. After having burn in issues with 2 high end LG OLED's I needed something where I wouldn't have to worry about that, and so far this panel is delivering in a big way.
The TCL QM8K comes across as a bright-room mini LED TV that gets impressively close to OLED on black levels while avoiding burn in worries. Picture quality is praised for strong HDR highlights, deep blacks, good blooming control, and a glossy panel that gives dark scenes a rich look. It also seems well suited to sunny rooms, with the 65 inch model handling direct light and the set looking excellent in person. The main drawbacks are TCL's ad heavy Google TV interface, which may need a launcher workaround, and some concern about warranty support. A strong fit if brightness and OLED like contrast matter more than a clean smart TV experience.
bright-room living rooms and sports/movie viewing because commenters say the QM8K is recommended for bright rooms and is noticeably brighter for HDR highlights than OLED they owned, with blacks that still look close enough to OLED for many people.
people who are okay managing the Google TV interface (or replacing the launcher) because multiple commenters call the stock Google TV UI ad-heavy/scattered, but say you can switch to app-only mode or use an alternative launcher like Projectivy to make it workable.
buyers who want to avoid OLED burn-in worries because one commenter switched after burn-in issues with multiple LG OLEDs and said the TCL removes that worry so far.
shoppers who plan to mount the TV or buy open-box and can handle minor cosmetic issues because an open-box buyer reported the stand arrived damaged but they were mounting anyway and still got a smooth return and re-evaluation to a lower open-box fair price.
buyers who want a TV that can handle direct sunlight because one commenter said the extremely bright display works fantastic in a south-facing room with direct sunlight.
people who want a clean, ad-free smart TV interface out of the box because commenters say the standard Google TV launcher throws a lot of info/ads in your face and the UI feels scattered.
buyers who are sensitive to warranty/customer-service risk because one commenter hesitated due to "horror stories" about warranty support even though they felt the deal was decent.
Apple TV+ users who don't want to troubleshoot privacy/data-sharing settings because there's a reported bug where Apple TV+ fails unless you adjust the privacy/data-sharing option.
Yes. It is repeatedly described as very bright and well-suited to bright rooms, including south-facing rooms with direct sunlight. The QM8K is also positioned as the top-tier model with higher brightness and stronger HDR than the QM6K/QM7K.
It can look very close to OLED in black level and overall image quality, with some viewing it as OLED-like in person. The glossy panel and strong local dimming help blacks look deep, though viewing angles are still not near OLED.
Yes. The TV runs Android/Google TV, so an alternative launcher like Projectivy can be used, and app-only mode is another option. The stock launcher can return after OS updates or power failures, so it may need occasional resetting.
It avoids OLED-style burn-in concerns because it is a mini-LED LCD, making it a better fit for heavy static-content use. That is the main reason some buyers chose it after dealing with burn-in on OLEDs.
