Unfortunately, I was overly optimistic. First, enabling LE Audio in Windows is only possible in rare circumstances where the OEM provided driver indicates LE Audio support, even if the underlying chipset is rated for Bluetooth 5.2+. Secondly, even if your computer supports it or you buy a secondary dongle, the audio quality still drops terribly when the mic is active.
I will spare all the details but check out the Reddit thread "WH-1000XM6 via LC3 - a limited experience for gaming" for more of a breakdown.
Overall, I found nothing in the Sony WH-1000XM6's to be a worthwhile upgrade without working LE Audio and returned them. I'll continue with my Sony WH-1000XM5's (and an external mic for gaming) for the foreseeable future.
Community Reviews
Sony's WH 1000XM6 is being discussed as a brand new, authorized eBay listing for Sony's flagship noise canceling headphones, with up to 30 hour battery life, quick charging, multipoint, and app support. The strongest draw is the familiar XM series sound and noise cancellation, with several comparisons saying it sounds essentially the same as the XM5. The coupon can be finicky, sometimes only showing the discount at checkout, and warranty coverage is debated even though the seller is described as authorized. Fragile hinge complaints and limited gaming improvements with LE Audio are the main cautions, making it a solid fit if those tradeoffs are acceptable.
The black model can show the coupon discount at checkout even if the cart does not display it.
The deal can work out to a lower effective price when PayPal reward points are applied.
The listing indicates brand-new condition with a USA warranty and a 1-year Sony warranty.
Sony authorized dealers are described as the sellers for this offer.
The HOLIDAYRUSH coupon may fail to apply for some shoppers, leaving the price around $398 instead of $318.
The coupon may be rejected if eBay believes it was already used or if purchase limits are exceeded.
LE Audio support may not work on some Windows setups, and audio quality can drop when the microphone is active.
Fragile hinge complaints can be a reason to avoid the XM6.
