These same 72 ct packs are in Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart and Menards for under $4 regular price. They are too small to fill up a standard seed tray cell, and often don't expand as advertised. Most of the time you end up having to use 2 pellets per tray unlike the original peat moss pellets.

Can you point me to the item on the Home Depot website? I'm only finding the 36 pack of 36mm Jiffy pellets for $5.97. Menards has a similar 72 pack for $3.88. The gas to go get them is more than the 9 cents price difference though, unless I'm going there anyway, and it's not showing availability in the stores around me.

No, I no longer see them listed on the Home Depot website, although I know they have them at my local Home Depot, because I'm there quite often looking for more Jiffy 12 cell windowsill kits they have on clearance right now. Interestingly there are several seed starting kits shown as available on Home Depot's website, but are nowhere to be found. At one point a couple of weeks ago 5-6 associates were looking for them for me, but they weren't able to track them down. I've been searching for 5-6 weeks. Website vs in-store inventory seems to be less reliable these days, at least in my experience. The following products are on their website as in-stock at my local store, but they are in fact 'MIA':
