As some one who uses airtag and third party tags like bestbuy insignia, I can honestly say that there is not much difference in tracking. They are both as good or as bad at times. They both lag in updates. Sometimes, both of them refuse to update location for hours even in populated areas like a school. I will not waste more money on apple airtags, if i really need one, i will just go and get the off brand one like the insignia which was only $12.99 for 4 not long ago.

Anyone who doubts their usefulness: Having one of these in my carry-on that I was forced to check helped me track my missing luggage in Heathrow luggage that didn't make my connecting flight, update the airline (British Airways) with an AirTag link, and quickly get my luggage found/tracked/on the next flight to me in NYC, and trackable on the delivery service, JUST before my next flight to HNL. Totally saved my ass/must-have for traveling

Very helpful. Last time it alerted me that my checked bag was still across the Atlantic before I even approached the airline staff to get it.

Yes, but I believe there are cheaper/better alternatives. AirTags will notify people that they're being tracked. I believe there are other brands that won't notify anyone but you.

It will keep tracking if there is an iphone near it, but it will also notify iphones very close to it that it is there. I have my airtag locked in a car safe under floor board in my truck so it cannot be removed
