You can cut the 4 vertical corner pieces any length you desire.
You can use a fine-toothed hacksaw, a sawzall, or a cut-off wheel.
...And If you don't have a drywall ceiling in your garage, you don't have to cut the 4 corners at all. Just let the excess corner metal extend above the ceiling joists. Easy Peasy.
(by the same idea, if you have 16' foot ceilings in your garage, you could replace the four corner pieces using "Perforated Angle Iron", and extend the shelf downward)
