Anyone own this or a recent comparable Samsung watch that can comment on how the sleep tracking and other core features function without a Samsung phone? (Google pixel phone for example)

This is an absolute pain to set up as standalone watch for kids. I tried everything, most providers (Verizon, t mobile, boost, Google Fi) and still couldn't get it to work standalone (even tried the QR ESiM method too)

Not sure I understand, but I would appreciate some detail. Are you speaking to the family controls, the eSIM activation, or both?

I personally just activated a Samsung Galaxy Active 2 on Helium using the guidance on reddit without issue, and imagined that those same steps would work for this device.

Good luck!

We're you using a Galaxy phone to set it up? I saw a recent Reddit post implying that you basically need to do it from a Galaxy phone initially. I have a Watch7 coming Saturday for my oldest and will be giving Watch for Kids a go.

I just switched from Samsung Galaxy to Pixel phone. For my Galaxy Watch 6 classic, I needed Samsung Smart Switch and Samsung Health apps. It's working as before now. Hope this helps

My 8 year old has a watch 4 (wanted cheap one and works for him) and its standalone without an app. He just likes to check his steps for the day and the time. Tried to create a samsung health account for him, but since under 13, it wouldn't. So runs it without tied to an account.

Any suggestions on whether I should go for this one or Google Pixel 1 on Amazon for $75?

Same experience. I don't have a Samsung phone. I tried EVERYTHING. Incredibly frustrating experience- no clear guidance from Samsung or verizon saying it's not possible. Ended up returning it.

This is basically a lesser-speced Galaxy Watch 5, right?
