Do not use any tablets in your tank that contain bleach. It will ruin gaskets and other plastic components. If you are ok with replacing these parts yourself every few years then go ahead but if you need to hire a plumber to replace these parts then these tablets are going to be very expensive to you eventually.

Modern rubber compounds aren't affected by this small amount of chemicals in these things relax boomer.

A previous neighbor who's owned a plumbing company for 40 years says differently. He told me only put cleaners in the bowl, never the tank.

There seems to be zero support for that beliefe on the internet. I have never used these type of products, however I heard the warning so I did some searching and couldn't find one source supporting your belief, every source I found recommended against any cleaning product in the tank.
(Although, I didn't check the sites that say all vaccines are a scam or that cigarettes don't actualy cause lung cancer.)
