Love Nintendo but they deserve the low sales because of how much they decided to charge for these Switch 2 games. They need to lower it back down to previous levels.

First discount I've seen on the base model that didn't involve gift cards, all the others were for the Mario Kart bundle.

Might become more common. Reports yesterday were that this was the worst November for video game hardware sales in the US in 20 years by dollars spent, and the worst in 30 years by units sold.

They had to come up eventually. Games used to cost $50 20-30 years ago and look how much inflation has happened since then and especially how much game development costs have gone up. One guy used to make a game by himself, now they're like Hollywood studio productions. Look how many people are in the credits for any Mario game these days.

The Switch 2 is still the fastest selling console. Momentum is slowing down for sure, but I don't think slicing $50 off the console is going to make a significant difference. Everything gaming has skyrocketed in price in the last year or so, and honestly the Switch 2 is the one thing that is most reasonably priced right now. PS and Xbox asking more for their 5 year old consoles, games and accessories keep going up in price.

Maybe lower gaming sales are indeed a sign of a bad economy after all, but I don't know if this would result in better prices/deals.

$80 for a single game is highway robbery period.

Part of me thinks it is Nintendo being slimy and hoping that everyone will re-buy when an OLED version comes out like 4 or so years from now, but the other part of me thinks they just did it to keeps costs down. The same people that are whining that this didn't come with an OLED screen are also the same group that would be whining if Nintendo had to raise the cost even further to add one.
Yeah, I agree. It would make sense if they offered both versions at the same release date that way people could choose which one they could afford, but I'm guessing that's a ton of R&D stacked on top of an already tight business model.

But this probably also means the economy is going in the toilet since it was the worst November for video game hardware sales in the US in 20 years by dollars spent, and the worst in 30 years by units sold (not necessarily just for Nintendo), congratulations you have cheaper games but no income to buy them Frown
No good games is IMO a bigger explanation than economy being bad. Playing video games is cheaper than almost any other activity even with the updated prices.

No Zelda or Mario.

The Metroid Prime 4 we waited a 15 years for was an 8/10 at best.

They need to give us something great if they want to justify this system.

Probably should have launched at this price. They could have sold many more consoles before the RAM spike started. Next year will be interesting to see if Nintendo increases the prices, and how consumers will respond. They're certainly not going to eat the hardware cost increase, it'll be passed right on to consumers. $500 to $550 base Switch 2 is not out of the question anymore. Console gaming will become unaffordable for those not dedicated.

I don't mind the increase in prices for the games. They've been fairly cheap compared to how expensive they were back in the day (especially adjusted for inflation).
My issue is this half step of a console. Yeah it's faster, but why is the screen worse than the OLED version? That should have been a no brainer.
I don't miss OLED with the S2. The VRR and 120Hz make up for it and it's sharp and vivid.

Nintendo does not eat costs. If RAM is going up, the Switch 2 price is going up.

you can easily PM with Best Buy
Can you? I've been trying with the chat and phone all day and they will not budge. There are plenty at my local Microcenter but since you can't do store pick up or shipping they reject it.

Does anyone have any tips on getting Best Buy to price match? My local microcenter is about 40 miles away from my local Best Buy, I've tried the chat and calling them but they keep refusing to honor it bc the microcenter website does not give you the option to pickup or ship the item even though my store has several in stock. Would they honor it in person? Or should I just give up.
