Roku Streaming Stick 4K is a compact streamer that stands out for 4K playback, Dolby Vision on the 2021 model, and a built in WiFi extender in the cable. The newer 2025 version is described as having a better processor, while the non Dolby Vision version may fit TVs that do not support that format. The main drawback is Roku's ad heavy interface, with large home screen ads and rotating event banners that can be hard to avoid. The included power cable also raises questions because it appears to handle the long range WiFi receiver.

Common Questions (6)

  • The 2021 Roku Streaming Stick 4K includes Dolby Vision, while the 2025 version does not. If your TV supports Dolby Vision, the older model is the better match for that feature.

  • The cable is described as a power cable with a long-range Wi‑Fi receiver, so it may be part of how the stick gets its wireless connection. If it fails, a replacement may need to be the OEM cable to preserve that receiver function.

  • Roku home-screen ads are hard to block completely, even with a Pi-hole. NextDNS reportedly leaves an empty ad frame instead, and the Roku interface can still show large right-side ads and rotating event banners that reappear after being hidden.

  • Yes, the Spectrum TV app is available in the Roku Channel Store, so the stick can be used to access Spectrum streaming on another TV. It should let you watch the channels included in your Spectrum TV service as long as the app is supported on your account.

  • The 20% back offer does not appear for every account. Some shoppers do not see it on the offer page, so eligibility may depend on the specific Amazon account or Prime Visa offer targeting.

  • No USB playback support is mentioned for this stick, and it is designed as a streaming device rather than a media player for local files. A USB drive would not be the normal way to use it on a dumb TV.

$5 difference for Dolby Vision
Thank you for this info, I bought the stick plus assuming it had dolby vision. So the older versio is superior than the stick plus?

why is this a front page deal and the 2025 one is lower priced and not front page? The 2021 is better than the 2025 one?

The one without Dolby Vision is probably created for people with Samsung TVs - both devices do not pay fee to license DV and can be purchased at a lower price.

It looks like this one also has a WiFi extender built in.

FYI to all. I had Roku for years and did everything I could to block ads without success (even using a pi-hole). I have Google TV now and although out of the box, it's terrible, it's just android so you can do custom launchers (flauncher) with no ads making it soooo much better than roku. I'll never go back. I wish somebody had told me earlier.
Genuine question: where are people encountering all the ads on Roku devices? Are people referring to commercials during normally scheduled commercial breaks in shows?

I can't speak for other people here, but with my setup using an android stick, I run a VPN app that blocks ads, and some (most) of my shows skip the commercial breaks.

I always had the large ad on the right side of the app/channel selection. The other is the most annoying which would add itself on the listing before getting to the app/channel selection, something like "NFL playoff!". You can go into options and hide it, only to have a new one show up a week later. These change out weekly-ish and just show back up if you hide it. You're required to scroll past it just to watch Netflix or whatever.
Example1 [reddit.com]

Can't find any good pictures of the other menu where annoying events would show up but it's on this listing:

yeah I finally figured that out, but I bought the 2025 anyway because it was a gift for someone whose tv very likely didn't support DV anyway and then 2025 one has the better processor.

Just get a mini pc and hook it up to an HDMI input on your TV. You can install any browser and surf the internet for any of the dozens of live tv, live sports, movie and tv show streaming sites, and on demand sites for free. Install an ad blocker in your browser and Sponsor block for YouTube creator added ads, and you're good to go. Here's an example; https://www.amazon.com/s?k=mini+p...n-left_1_7

But mini PCs cost much more than $25 or $50.

Although personally I do have an older PC hooked to my TV via HDMI. It's a full-size tower that sits behind the TV.
