To those curious like I was, the refills for this unit are most cheaply available via a bulk pack through Amazon S&S. When purchased that way, you pay $82.21 for 6x40hr refills, which works out to 34.25 cents per hour ($0.34/hr). The single-packs also occasionally go on sale for AmazonS&S as low as $13/ea, but are not currently priced as such.
Note that the refills included with this deal are only 12hr each.
In my experience: kinda. It does not have a 100% success rate like DEET or 95% like picaridin, but it has the benefit of not requiring to be sprayed on your person. It's about 80--85% effective I'd say.
It is more effective than any other ground-based, air-based, or area-based mosquito repellant, though. I live in an extremely humid area, so I get a TON of mosquitos. I have tried EVERY solution short of carpet bombing my neighborhood with agent orange.
