What's with this mini toolbox trend? First noticed the harbor freight mini boxes that seem to be popular and now seeing it from lots of brands. Are other just getting them because they are cute or am I missing something with this trend lol?
Not exactly the same product, but check your local Lowe's if you have one nearby. They have incredibly similar mini toolboxes on clearance right now at two of the ones I've been to. They look identical to me, except for having a Kobalt logo, ranging between $18 and $22 depending on color.

My (uneducated) guess is that companies saw how HF blew up in mentions and trends when theirs was released and scrambled to get in on the game. I ended up picking two HF mini boxes after the initial craze died down and have been generally happy with it. One has basic tools used frequently (multi-bit screwdriver, tape measure, temp gun, mini pick set, permanent marker) with a Toughbuilt magnetic torpedo level stuck on the top of it, and the other my 7yo son has with various little tools I've given him because he wanted to be like dad and help fix things haha.
If you already have a place for tools kept in the house then maybe this isn't what you need. For me, it's nice for keeping basic common tools in the house in one spot while simultaneously keeping the family from ransacking the 52" Husky workbench in the garage.
