I received, first time ever, a live potted plant from Amazon, on a deal listed here. The pot was wraped in transparent waxed plastic wraps, sort of wax paper you may use in kitchen or those used in warehouses to secure large pellets. The top was so nicely wrapped that not even a speck of soil was out. The plant was about a foot or so long and placed in a narrow rectangular shipping box such that the bottom of the box was square but at mid-section kinda tapered all the way to the top. No damage, nothing. I was surprised plants could be so easily shipped. I still have that plant that grew even more branches in not so great condition around it at the kitchen window

Depending on the variety, the flowers can be showy or non-showy, fragrant or non-fragrant, with or without fruits, and fertile or non-fertile.
If the plant doesn't have fertile fruit, or any fruit at all, then it's not going to be invasive. The chances are it's not invasive because it's a patented plant.

I can't get chips from Amazon without them being turned to dust, what chance does a plant have? Especially in sub-zero temps with freezing rain?

The weather was my thought too. Sitting on my porch in 15 degree temp can't be good for it, snow/ice aside.

If you are going to buy a viburnum and you live in the Eastern United States, buy a native viburnum dentatum (arrowwood viburnum), not this invasive crap. The native species will grow better in our local ecology, and will provide sustenance to the dwindling populations of our native bugs and birds.
