LG's 45 inch 5K2K OLED curved gaming monitor stands out for immersive ultrawide gaming and strong productivity at a desk. The 21 by 9, 5120 by 2160 panel delivers sharp text, deep OLED blacks, and striking HDR in racing, flight sim, and fast FPS games, with the curve feeling natural at normal viewing distance. The main drawback is the aggressive 800R curve, which can look odd for movies or TV and may not suit every setup. A short power cable and occasional flicker reports add some setup caution, making it a strong fit if the curve works for you.

When gaming on an OLED, do dark areas go pitch black? Can you still see campers hiding in the corners?

I can only speak to productivity scenarios first hand. In that case the curve is kind of needed because otherwise you'd be craning your neck versus just turning your head/swiveling your chair.I can say this - when I slide a window across the screen it gives a very distinct feeling of the content following a curved path / arc and NOT a straight line. Like it's rolling around the inside of a drum/barrel. It's VERY pronounced. Feels quite cool when all you're doing is moving things around a curved screen. But for a movie? Hmmm...I would imagine that could either enhance your feeling of immersion in a movie or make it feel very unnatural. Since this is a gaming monitor I'd guess it's an enhancement for most immersive experiences, but I'm not a gamer.I would never watch a movie on my computer monitor but just for a test I pulled up the Apple TV app and watched some scenes in Family Plan 2 and F1. F1 looked amazing in the immersive/racing scenes. (Reinforcing my feeling that this would be good for gaming.) but Family Plan 2 scenes looked pretty unnatural with the curve. Verdict: I wouldn't buy this monitor if it's your primary screen for movies and TV unless you don't get motion sick easily ;-)
What about primary for JUST productivity?

OK, so LG just lowered their store price to $1399 but their partner store is lagging behind (they are supposed to be at minimum 10% cheaper than the regular store price) so I would expect the partner store to drop to $1200-$1250 shortly.

I am using it with an HDMI port on my NVDIA RTX 2070, and had no other issue before this monitor.

And at this point, I have tried reaching to LG, like 12-15 times, but couldn't get connected and also no replies via email as well.
And I just realized yesterday was the last day to return it, so I am out of return window as well.

So it seems like I am stuck with this.
If at all possible, try connecting the monitor to a different computer to rule out any issues with yours. If you confirm the monitor is faulty you should still be within the warranty period. Not saying that'll be an easy process, but a possible avenue toward resolution for you.
Another option would be to buy a new one from the same vendor, then return the faulty monitor on that receipt, presuming they don't track something like serial number with each order.

Black areas are pitch black but that's by design and looks amazing.

You can definitely pick out campers because they're not 100% black.

Nvidia 2070 only supports HDMI 2.0, which is 60Hz at 4K, I'm not sure if that means with the extended resolution it could also support 60Hz or if it's trying to do even less. Either way you're hindering the abilities of this monitor, you should switch to DisplayPort, which should support 120Hz at 4K.

I want most of these specs for my next monitor, but there's just one spec that kills it for me - the 800R curve. It is way too aggressive and is an automatic deal breaker. Does anyone know if there is a comparable monitor out there with a less aggressive (1800R or 1900R) curve?

It's likely that card isn't able to run the monitor at full potential and is causing artifacting/issues. Upgrade the card and you should be good.

Realistically, do you need the latest GPU (4090, 5080, 5090 etc.) to take full advantage of the full resolution and 165hz for gaming? I love this monitor but might stick to the slightly cheaper version just because I don't want to upgrade my GPU quite yet.

You mention an interesting point about gaming and F1. I specifically play racing games (AC, F1, AMS2). How do you think this monitor will fair for racing games?
I have 2 of these in separate PCs, one as a dedicated flight sim and one for a racing sim...F1, forza, gran turismo mainly. It is awesome for those use cases. The curve is just perfect. I plan to get 2 more for the flight sim setup when price drops further sometime so I can run 3xmonitor on that.
