Sometimes you need to clamp two stuff together without continuously holding to them. It can also be done with Clamps or other form of clamps but the Vise grip does provide more grips when needed and can easily be released. For $12 for 4 pieces is not brainer. But beware these are not for professional use but more of DIYer's or home improvement jobs.

These have so many uses one thing I find them good for is when you have to screw on a bolt but also have to hold the nut on the other side but sometimes its not possible to be able to reach both at the same time so if you clamp the vise grip on one side and amd start tightening on the nut the vise grip will turn with the bolt until it hits something then then nut will begin to tighten without having to hold the bolt on the other side
