Chamberlain restricted local API access to integrate with their opener, and has recently changed their protocol to further restrict local integrations.
So they build WiFi into their products and restrict your ability to use it outside of their ecosystem, ok, maybe you could make an argument re: "Security" and not having your door hacked over the network. But I think they don't really care about that, and more care about locking into their ecosystem so they can make money off of recurring services.
Fast forward to recently, now they're restricting your ability to physically hook into your garage door opener to control it how you wish.
"Just buy a different opener then." Ok, how about a LiftMaster? Chamerblain. Craftsman? Chamberlain. Genie is about your only option that is not (currently) completely hostile to you operating equipment you own in the way that you wish.
But people will keep buying this stuff because it goes on "sale" for 67% when realistically they've specced this thing down to the point where that's probably still profitable for them and they're roping people into recurring revenue streams. Just another brick laid on the path to "You'll own nothing, and you'll like it".

They shut down their api. So you can't use these openers with any other smart home platform (apple, Google, home assistant, etc.). Then the load thier app with adds. Basically pissed off the entire smart home community. There are some workarounds, but not for the novice smart home user.

I don't think anyone should be getting these with the whole MyQ debacle. Just get a "dumb" garage door opener and make it smart yourself.

Looks like a great deal. Maybe I should consider changing my noisy opener.

But I dunno what they are referring to specifically.

Was wondering the same thing. I have had the app on my phone for four years and never
and never had an issue.

Ignore them. They tried making a whole camera thing. The opener works just fine as a dumb opener. If you want you can pay like $20 a year for ai features with the camera.

The app lets you open and close for free. No sub neexed

They first blocked them from integrating into smart home software like home assistant.
Now with their new Security 3.0 platform it will even block things like the Ratgdo from working all together from my understanding.
