Direct injection is an abomination. With port injection the gasoline keeps your intake valves clean. With DI you get both injectors and valves all coked up... for very little benefit.

Absolutely if you indeed need the system cleaned and you use a 'complete' system cleaner with PEA. Like another commenter said, if it doesn't have PEA it is literally useless.
