Honestly, these look like the shaving heads they sold prior to the 90's. If so, my first shaver in the 90's had them. As a starter it was fine. I moved on the slots and holes model (Multi-Precision) and then the three ring slot/holes model (Speed XL). The Speed XL, to me had the closest shaver. I'm unfamiliar with the later models. However, my suggestion is go for the middle ground 5000 series. Those shaving heads have more blades and cutters.

You're most likely correct. The lowest end Phillips shavers have always had decades old technology in them. As they innovate and come out with new technology, what was the newest moves down a tier and so on down the line. It's a long, slow trickle, though.

To my face and head (daily head shaver as well), they hit peak with the Speed XL shaving heads. Since they have stopped manufacturing them, I only have two more sets of replacements left. I'll have to hope that the newer shaving heads are just as fast.

I ordered this shaver, but I haven't opened it yet and I saw the 5000X is on sale for $40 at Best Buy right now. Should I get the 5000X instead for $5 more?
